These basic open major chords give us a strong foundation to start off with. There are hundreds of songs that use these same three open major chords, so by getting them under your belt, you will be able to start playing your favourite tunes in no time.
The reason why they are called ‘open chords’, is because they make use of the ‘open strings’, which are the strings you see in the video that are marked with an ‘o’ or an ‘x’ next to the them on the chord diagram.

How to Practice Open Major Chords:
When learning your open major chords, it is important to take your time and make sure you are getting all the notes in your chord to ring out. The best way to do this is to play your chord string-by-string or note-by-note. If you find that there are some notes that are not sounding right then an adjustment needs to be made. Be patient as it can be difficult to get used to maneuvering in and out of chord shapes fluently. Practice makes perfect. The more time you spend on practicing chords, the better you will be at them. It’s as simple as that.
In order for you to get the most out of this exercise, we recommend you practice for at least 10-15 minutes each day. Remember consistency is the key here. Rather practice for a shorter time, every day, than for 2 hours once a week. Have fun with the exercise and be patient.
